The number of portions shown is approximate and should only be used as a guide.
The actual number of portions will depend on the accuracy of the person cutting the cake, and use of a suitable knife to cut the slices cleanly.
Sponge cake portions are based on the cake being cut into 2" x 1" pieces, whereas fruit cake and chocolate biscuit cake are usually cut into 1" x 1" portions (these types of cake are much richer, so just a small piece is usually plenty!)
If you require larger portions, or if your cake is to be served as dessert, the numbers will need to be adjusted accordingly. Dessert portions are usually measured as 2" x 2".
Plain iced cakes (also called 'kitchen' or 'cutting' cakes) can be provided to suppliment your wedding or celebration cake if extra portions are required to make up the numbers.
